FASET Stair Tower & Edge Protection (STEP) Course

Learn how to safely plan and manage the installation of stair towers and edge protection systems

The FASET Stair Tower & Edge Protection (STEP) Course is designed for health and safety advisers, managers and supervisors, and temporary works coordinators, designers and supervisors.

You will learn about the management, planning, installation and inspection of STEP systems. It is a requirement of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, that STEP systems be inspected at regular intervals. Subsequently, duty holders responsible for controlling work at height need to be competent to select, plan for and inspect STEP systems.

Learning outcome

Candidates will have the knowledge to plan for and manage the installation of STEP. As a result, you will understand what to expect from contractors prior to work commencing. You will have the knowledge to select appropriate STEP systems relevant to the work, identify components, faults and possible repercussions, and specify actions to mitigate risks.

Course content

  • Standards and legislation for stair towers and edge protection
  • Temporary works
  • Planning and paperwork
  • Faults and inspection of systems

For stair towers:

  • Parts of a stair tower
  • Limitations and tying in
  • Post-installation checks

For temporary edge protection:

  • BS EN 13374; Classes A, B & C
  • Components
  • Planning
  • Drawings
  • Faults and inspection of systems.
  • Post-installation checks

Certification

FASET issue a certificate of attendance which is valid for 3 years.

Course location

This course is delivered at our training centre in Cheshire. Alternatively, we can deliver on-site or at your premises but a suitable classroom is a necessity.

Courses held at our training centre include lunch and refreshments. There may be practical inspections, but PPE is not necessary. We have disabled welfare facilities should they be required.

Candidate numbers: Minimum 8 – Maximum 12.

The course starts at 08:00 until approx. 16:30.
